I agree with Roger, It depends on what you are trying to do
with MPLS.
Firstly i think the MPLS lab should begin with a simple Label
distribution mechanism like LDP or RSVP-TE
to understand label pushing , swapping and poping.
VPNs could be the next step.
So with 4 routers you could have a very precise label switching
network
with one end to end LSP and all functionality can be observed
/ studied etc.
Just enable LDP with default configurations on all routers on the
given interfaces
and go through the label tables, and if possible capture the
packets and study the label
operations on each segment of the network ( ethereal is a good tool
to use ).
Hope this helps

Federico, with all respect I would still say
an MPLS network can be set
up without a P router, using only 2 PE routers back to back.
Granted, you
will not get a good look at all the proper LDP labeling because each
PE is
the ultimate, not penultimate router. However, from a VPN point of
view,
all BGP sessions work, VPN labels are exchanged etc, IGP routing happens,
etc
I guess it depends on what you are trying to do, trying to see.
