The reason pure Ethernet L2 networks don't scale well have little or
nothing to with distance limitations for ZX GBICs (which, by the way,
typically is 70 to 100 km).

If you don't know why scaling pure Ethernet L2 networks is difficult
I would encourage reading up on this before trying to continue the
discussion.
