Hi,

As Roger told you about ip cef distributed , i would like to add some comments on that.

ip cef distributed is supported with 7500 series and above.Where you might have VIP card in the router.Because dCEF is supported very well on VIP.

Again there are some issues/bugs in the Cisco IOS 12.2 / 12.3 related to CEF and dCEF.Where you might face a lot of problem in your Network.Packet might be looped between 2 router or any one may not be received the routing updates from others. In such case Router CPU load will shoot up around 90-99%.
In such case you can see the cef table but it'll not switch any packet. So you have to disable CEF/dCEF in your Router.

Regarding your 3745 router , Use ip cef in the global mode.It will not support dCEF.
Secondly.. to enable tag switching, you have to give this command on interface level. It will support.

I would like to add one more thing, before doing any analysis or R&D , just navigate the particuler IOS version's feature and it's better to have Service provider image in your Router or you can contact your vendor for the same. Therefore you can get the additional features in particular IOS.And you will aware about any issue/bug for that particular IOS Version.

Thanks & Regards,
Abhishek Mittal

Yugandhar, the ip cef distributed command only works on some platforms that allow cef to run as multiple independent services on individual modules. These tensd to be the 7500 level and up. What you may want is simply ip cef. This would be a global command and work for the whole platform.

Also the way you have the second command reported may be an issue. Tag switching might want to run on the interface itself, so I would expect to see:
config-if# tag-switching ip

I don't have books or a router with me right now to make sure that is all correct, but see if it works for you. If I am not correct, I am sure someone else will speak up.

Hi all,

I would like to know whether Cisco IOS Software Release 12.3(1a) support MPLS or not. I have a 3745 router with above software version. I tried the commanda like:

(Config)#ip cef distributed
(config)#tag-switching ip

But it is giving unrecognized command. I searched in help also, it is not available. I have gone through many sites, but I didn't get accurate information. If anybody tried on this router with same software version can guide me please.

Thanking you sir
