MPLS stands for "Magic Problem-solving Labor Substitution", and lets
you do all sorts of cool things on your network like

- increase the speed of light by 17%
- fit 700Mbit/sec of traffic on an OC12
- enable buzzword-compliant services that will make you billions of
dollars with little more expended effort than it takes to sneeze.

no, really!

Or you could try, in order:

Davie & Rekhter's book "MPLS: Technology and Applications"
"MPLS and VPN Architectures", Guichard and Pepelnjak
"Traffic Engineering with MPLS", Osborne (that's me!!) and Simha
