Thanks for the reply. So what is the response to a Label Request with a default route? The RFC is not clear about this. According to you, if there is no label generated for this route, then the router definitely does not send a label mapping back. Simply because, a mapping MUST have a label tlv in it.

What is a router supposed to do on receiving a Label request with the FEC tlv for a default route(0.0.0.0/0)? Is it supposed to send a Notification back with status "No route" or send a Label mapping for the same? If the latter is true, what is the label?
