Hi Kartik,

No, this is not LDP Discovery. The router has already formed an hello adjacency with the peer & established a TCP session. Now, it is trying to request a label for a FEC(default fec in this case) from its downstream neighbor. My question is whether the downstream router sends a Notification "No Route"(if it does not have the default route in its routing table) or it sends a Label Mapping with some label?

Thanks,
Bageshri

Dear Bageshwari

In MPLS labels are only created for a specific prefix. No label is created for a default route. As per you as there is no  route in the downstream LSR the local LSR will create a local label for that specific prefix but it will not get a remote label for that prefix from the downstream LSR.

Kartik

Thanks for the reply. What if the router does not have the default route? In that case, does it send a Notification with status "No Route" like with any other route for which it does not have an entry in its routing table.

Thanks again,

Bageshri

Hi,

What is a router supposed to do on receiving a Label request with the FEC tlv for a default route(0.0.0.0/0)? Is it supposed to send a Notification back with status "No route" or send a Label mapping for the same? If the latter is true, what is the label?

Thanks,

Bageshri
