If you use a signalling protocol (which are LDPs) like RSVP-TE or CR-LDP 
at the edge routers to distribute label information, the LSP 
is set automatically else, you do manual label path setup. 
LDP is just setting up of this path automatically by 
distributing label information depending on some calcualtion done at the 
edges. Thus, to be more precise LDP is a mechanism for distributing label-to-FEC binding information in the 
network.
