You don't need to. It's the MPLS NTU that counts. (A bit strange? Yes...)

On a 7206 running 12.2.14S5:

interface FastEthernet0/0
[snip]
  mpls label protocol ldp
  tag-switching mtu 1600
  tag-switching ip

pe#sh mpls int fa0/0 det
Interface FastEthernet0/0:
         IP labeling enabled (ldp)
         LSP Tunnel labeling not enabled
         BGP tagging not enabled
         MPLS operational
         Optimum Switching Vectors:
           IP to MPLS Turbo Vector
           MPLS Turbo Vector
         Fast Switching Vectors:
IP to MPLS Fast Switching Vector
           MPLS Turbo Vector
         MTU = 1600

pe#sh ip int fa0/0
FastEthernet0/0 is up, line protocol is up
[snip]
   MTU is 1500 bytes

BTW, the FastEthernet-port is on I/O-module.

The other end is on a 8FE-TX-RJ45-B LineCard on a GSR.
