IPv4/IPv6 (over MPLS) over POS/Ethernet.

Ethernet is priced much lower than POS, but POS has the advantage of lower
overhead (no ethernet header, makes substantial difference on small packet
sizes).

I don't see IPv4/6 directly over the L2 media going away soon, MPLS
doesn't add value in a lot of the scenarios.

I would say ATM is dead, ATM was dead and was only revived due to DSL and
hopefully future DSL will be able to do ethernet directly on the DSL layer
without the ATM overhead (which is VERY substantial when doing IPv4 over
Ethernet over ATM over DSL, especially if you also throw in PPPoE/A there
as well).
