The PE-CE link addresses can come out of anywhere and are limited to the VRF only. However, it is a common practice in SPs to provide addresses from their pool (private or public) and pull them into the management VRF where all the NMS systems reside. This is to be able to generate the SLA reports for the customers from CPE to CPE. For managed customers, there is additional config required in backend systems. The same reason applies to not having unnumbered addressees. Regards Harpreet Singh -----Original Message----- From: Bala S. I was going thru one of the Networkers 2005 presentation titled "RST-3109 Deploying MPLS VPN" In it was listed as one of the "best practices" that "5. PE-CE IP address should come out of SP's public address space to avoid overlapping Use /31 subnetting on PE-CE interfaces" My question is why is this necessary ? What happens if the PE interface ip address is the same for two sites ? Are PE intf IPs exchanged between the PEs ? Finally, what about unnumbered interfaces ? Thanks & best regards, /bala ------- The MPLS-OPS Mailing List Subscribe/Unsubscribe: http://www.mplsrc.com/mplsops.shtml Archive: http://www.mplsrc.com/mpls-ops_archive.shtml ------- The MPLS-OPS Mailing List Subscribe/Unsubscribe: http://www.mplsrc.com/mplsops.shtml Archive: http://www.mplsrc.com/mpls-ops_archive.shtml
